Overview

The primary responsibility of the Yard Jockey is to efficiently move trailers around the yard and in and out of loading docks at our distribution center. This role is essential to maintaining the smooth flow of goods and ensuring timely loading and unloading of products.

What You'll Do

Be Safety Minded: 

Safety is our #1 priority.  It’s important that associates are committed to working in and fostering a safe environment for all, including reporting any safety concerns immediately. 

 

  • Safely move trailers between dock doors and yard parking areas. 
  • Ensure trailers are properly and safely positioned at the docks for loading and unloading. 
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of trailers and yard trucks to ensure they are in safe operating condition. 
  • Communicate with the DC and shipping/receiving departments to coordinate trailer movements. 
  • Maintain accurate records of trailer movements and yard activities. 
  • Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of yard trucks. 
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures. 
  • Assist with yard organization and cleanliness. 
  • Provide support for other distribution center operations as needed. 

What You'll Bring to the Table

Recommended Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Previous experience as a yard driver, yard jockey, or similar role in a distribution center or warehouse environment. 
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and procedures. 
  • Ability to operate yard trucks and other material handling equipment. 
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment. 
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions. 

 

Job Requirements: 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Understanding of DOT regulations and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) rules.
  • Knowledge of safe driving practices and ability to adhere to all safety protocols. 
  • Must follow all DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements, including pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion testing. 
  • Ability to understand English (in verbal and written forms) at a level sufficient to communicate accurately and rapidly about workplace tasks and conditions

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Maneuverability:  Ability to maneuver in a distribution center, reach overhead & at or below shoulder level, as well as stoop, crouch, kneel, climb, and balance 
  • Standing:  Ability to stand for long periods of time. 
  • Carrying/Pushing/Pulling: Handling boxes, which may involve carrying, pulling, pushing
  • Lifting:  Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds, sometimes repeatedly 
  • Computer use: Prolonged use of computers and other electronics
  • Fine Motor Skills: Ability to use hands for seizing, holding, grasping, turning, etc, including, touching, picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers. 
  • Vision:  Must have near & far visual acuity with or without correction. 

 

Environment: 

  • Ability to withstand prolonged exposure to temperatures that may match outdoor temperatures.    
  • Ability to walk 10,000 or more steps and be standing or moving for the entire shift. Some departments have stairs to reach work areas.
